May
31, 2007 - VC Poker gets warning by ASA for ad involving
sex
The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an
add by the online poker room, Victor Chandler (VCPoker)
for violation of policies laid out in the UK advertising
code regarding online gambling. The violation mixed sex
and gambling together into the same theme which the ASA
did not take kindly to.
The ad had a good sexy blonde playing Texas Holdem with a
caption of, “You love sex. She loves sex. You love money.
She loves money. You have money. She loves you. See how
much you have in common?”
The ASA reviewed the ad and determined the ad implies
that, “that gambling would improve players' sex lives and
also said the line ‘See how much you have in common’,
reinforced the notion that men ‘even if socially inept,
could obtain sexual success.”
This ad constituted a breach of CAP Code clauses 2.2 on
responsible advertising and 54.3 on betting and gaming.
VC Poker Representatives claimed that it was only trying
to communicate the idea that “everyone loves a winner.”
